Abstract Painting.

Van Gogh, Picasso, and Modigliani. We've all heard at least one of these names. They're all names of famous painters, among many, that caused abstract painting to become so popular in modern day society. What is abstract painting? "an absrtact painting is one that doesnt depict objects in the natural world. Abstract art uses bright colors and natural shapes in a nonrepresenting and nonobjective manner.
In 1940 there was a movement called the "abstact expression" it was started to show artists that they are free to paint whatever they want, not just a real life piece of artwork and it also pushed the art of abstract painting. A school in New York started the movement but called it "action painting". the  school was the first American school that fought for its independence from European art style. They believed thier art was spiritual and intellectual art.

Ceramics.

Since the dawn of time cavemen and women have been digging up clay and making useful things with it. They made anything from pottery to arrow heads. I read an article that took place in the early 1900's about how a Bauhaus school in Weimar hired Max Krehan to teach a new ceramics class at their school. Krehan observed that his class of five students were very self efficient just like traditional potters. Other people had noticed as well and wanted to make plans to expedite production of their pottery. Many people were disgruntled about this idea because they believed that "the school is and educational institution not a factory" but they made plans for mass production anyway. In 1925 Bauhaus' mass production was shut down and in the early 1930's the school was closed completely.
I found this article very interesting because it shows how a little class of five students go from making pottery just in their class to doing it in mass production only to have it all shut down but yet it still greatly affected German and European ceramic design.

Revision.

Have you ever been walking down the street and seen some kind of odd but interesting graffiti? I've always thought that graffiti would be an interesting topic to research about because it has always been the kind of art I like and, for the most part, it usually has some humor in it. Many people think it's baneful, but me... I think it's extraordinary. There are two particular graffiti artists that I've been researching. The first is named Banksy. This is one of his artworks to the right. I think this piece is quite hilarious because it looks like a very busy, hard working rat who is simply saying, "Let them eat crack". In today’s society hard working people definitely do not tell people to, "Let them eat crack" and I think it's kind of ironic that Banksy has thought of and created a rat that is totally opposite of most adults in real life.

The second artist is called 6emeia. He creates his art using things on the street and the street it’s self. And once again his art has some humor in it as well. On the right there are two different examples of his art. The top one is of a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat. And the lower one is obviously Mario and Luigi off the classic Mario games. They are both painted on sidewalk gutters. I thought that 6emeia was an interesting graffiti artist because it’s not something you see every day and it’s not the typical graffiti art. In contrast to Banksy, 6emeia's art is also very cartoonish and unreal. And that is what I like so much about it. Most artists try to make their art as real as possible but that’s not what 6memia does and it kind of adds its own unknown personality to the artwork.

Graffiti.

Have you ever been walking down the street and seen some kind of odd but interesting graffiti? I've always thought that graffiti would be an interesting topic to research about because it has always been the kind of art I like and it always had some humor in it. Many people think it's baneful, but me... I think it's beautiful. There are two particular graffiti artists that I've been researching. The first is named Banksy. This is one of his artworks to the right. I think this piece is quite hilarious because it looks like a very busy, hard working rat who is simply saying, "Let them eat crack". Art.

My blog topic I chose is art. I chose art because I’ve always been interested in it. I love looking at all types of art and love making art as well. I like all types of art, anything from graffiti to sculptures. I don’t know much art, but what I do know is that it’s anything that made out of skill and creativity and that there are a lot of different types of art, and that some famous artists are Vincent Van Gogh who made approx. 900 paintings in 10 years, Leonardo De Vinci who was so much more than just an artist, Pablo Picasso who painted and sculptured.  The types of art I would like to learn about is lithography, silk screen printing, pointillism, air brush painting, wax sculptures, etching, and acrylic painting. One interesting thing I’ve learned already is that most artists are left handed. This is interesting because one of my friends is taking a ceramics class and he is left handed.

Goals.

To my surprise, my parents did not change my Honors Geometry class to a normal Geometry class as planned. But kind of rethinking my situation and considering making goals I've decided to keep my class. My new goal for the next couple months would be to get a good grade in Honors Geometry and keep it for until the end of the school year, and pass with no less than a B in that class. I'm doing this because I know that Honors Geometry is a challenge for me. Last semester I barely passed with a D and I'm not planning on doing that again this semester. This is important to me because if I want to get into college one day then I would need to pass that class.
Another goal of mine would be to eat healthier. I've never really paid any attention to what I eat and I think it's about time to. That means eating more vegetables, even the ones I don’t like, and trying to enjoy them. Along with eating healthier, I would like to get outside more. Be more active. And that doesn't mean going to the gym and working myself to death. It means that I would like to go on more hikes and playing outside more. This is important to me because I know that it will benefit me more in the future if I start doing these activities now.

About Me

My name is Courtney Aaron Emmons and even from birth I knew I was born for greatness... totally kidding. I was like every other kid, well mostly. I was born and raised in a small washed up town called Page, Arizona. About the only great thing about it is that it’s by Lake Powell. My dad, Dave, raised me for about 8 years until he married my step mom, Ginger, when I was in the 5th grade. I went to Desert View for all of elementary then after that I went to the middle school where I met my best friend Olivia. Since then we have been glued together at the hip. Figuratively not literally, although we did glue our hands together once. But that's another story. After middle school I continued to the high school and I have to say freshman year wasn't as bad as everyone said. Currently I am a sophomore. My favorite classes are choir and photography. I still live in Page and still best friends with Olivia, many things have changed over the years but one thing is for sure. Life is good here and I'm staying for a while. So, if you would, follow me on my journey through high school and see the world form a different perspective.
