Abstract Painting.

Van Gogh, Picasso, and Modigliani. We've all heard at least one of these names. They're all names of famous painters, among many, that caused abstract painting to become so popular in modern day society. What is abstract painting? "an absrtact painting is one that doesnt depict objects in the natural world. Abstract art uses bright colors and natural shapes in a nonrepresenting and nonobjective manner.
In 1940 there was a movement called the "abstact expression" it was started to show artists that they are free to paint whatever they want, not just a real life piece of artwork and it also pushed the art of abstract painting. A school in New York started the movement but called it "action painting". the  school was the first American school that fought for its independence from European art style. They believed thier art was spiritual and intellectual art.
